Salt In Our Diet

How much salt is in the average American's diet? Could an over consumption of sodium be increasing your risk of heart disease? Watch and find out!

Doc Talk: How Much Salt Is In Our Diet?

Most people don’t think of salt as a food additive, they think of it as an ingredient to make a great recipe. However, salt is actually a very common food additive that increases the risk of heart disease, among other health problems.

Salt In Our Diet – 80% of the sodium or salt in our diet comes not from the salt shaker or the foods we put into our cooking—it comes from processed foods, primarily frozen foods and foods at restaurants. So we don’t even realize we are getting it. With home cooked meals, you can monitor your salt intake easily, and try a food diary tracking program to really get a picture of how much salt you eat each day.
